The following is my personal experience with searching for Clipart, both for this site
and others. I decided I needed to find a number of Art related Clipart images, plus a
number of unrelated images for other projects. I suspect like most people searching
for Clipart on the Internet, my first thought was to try to find the images I
needed for free. Naturally!
Free Clipart
I initially spent many hours searching for Art related Clipart images.
Admittedly I did find a small number of images, however many were black and white
rather than color, or simply not of the required quality. I have since found that some
good free Clipart sites do exist, such as barrysclipart.com. There are some excellent
images on this and other free sites, however the range is limited and in the case of
barrysclipart.com the images are strictly for non-commercial use, and so of no use on my
websites.
Pay Clipart
I then tried Clipart.com, one of the largest pay Clipart sites on the web. Clipart.com
offer 2.6 million images accessible for a subscription fee, starting from $7.95
for a weeks subscription. I signed up to this service for a week and quickly found
around 30 images all of which were suitable for my purpose. Since my week long
subscription expired I have of course thought of many other categories of image
I could have downloaded! So perhaps it would be wise to think carefully about the
types and quantity of images you require now and any you may require in the future before
subscribing to a service such as this. However overall I would say from personal experience
that a low cost
subscription service is certainly worthwhile due to the huge number of high
quality images instantly available for download.
